The magnificent wisteria located within the grounds of Yamada Hiyoshi Shrine in Tamana City has been designated a Natural Monument of Kumamoto Prefecture. Estimated to be over 200 years old, this wisteria blooms with pale purple flowers that can grow over one meter in length, from mid-April to early May each year. During the blooming season, the wisteria is beautifully illuminated at night.
Tamana Ramen is recognized as the birthplace of Kumamoto-style ramen. This dish is characterized by its rich and flavorful pork bone broth, medium-thin noodles, and a distinctive topping of crispy fried garlic chips. There are around 16 specialty ramen shops located throughout Tamana City, and you can also find souvenir versions of Tamana Ramen to take home.
